Academic Bio

Jane Mikkelson is a PhD candidate at the University of Chicago pursuing a joint degree in the departments of South Asian Languages and Civilizations and Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations. Her research interests include early modern Persian literature, Indo-Persian intellectual and cultural history, Islam in South Asia, religion and literature, poetry and poetics, history of literary criticism, and theories of the lyric. She is currently completing her dissertation, “Worlds of the Imagination: Bīdel, Ḥazīn, and Early Modern Persian Lyric Style,” on a COSAS Dissertation Write-Up Fellowship and the Elder Olson Dissertation Research Fellowship for the critical study of poetry and poetics (2017-2018).
