Academic Bio

Theo is a specialist on Persian literary history, in particular the Timurid-Turkmen and Safavid-Mughal eras. His dissertation, currently titled “The Biographies of Sam Mirza,” utilizes the career and works of a sixteenth-century Safavid prince as a lens through which to study important developments in Persian literary culture, and the political history of Greater Iran, in that time period. While most of Theo’s work is based on Persian sources, he is also a serious Arabist and has taught both languages at the University of Chicago.
