Claire Roosien is a historian of modern Russia and the Middle East, with a focus on Central Asia. Her work is interdisciplinary, spanning cultural, social, and political history, and drawing on sources from budget reports to Socialist Realist novels. She is a joint-degree candidate in the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations and the Department of History.

Claire holds a BA from the University of Chicago (2010). Her research has been supported by the Fulbright US Student Program, the Fulbright-Hays DDRA, the Neubauer Family Fellowship, and the Hanna Holborn Gray Advanced Fellowship, among others.

Claire has served as intern in the Modern Middle East and Russian Civilization sequences, and is working toward a College Teaching Certificate.
