Near Eastern Art and Archaeology

Academic Bio

Charles is a first-year PhD student studying Bronze and Iron Age archaeology of the southern Levant. He received a BA from Brigham Young University in 2013 in anthropology with an archaeology emphasis. In 2017, Charles received a MA in archaeology and biblical studies from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. In addition to digging at historic and prehistoric sites in the United States, Charles has participated in numerous projects in the greater eastern Mediterranean region, including excavations at Nea-Paphos and Kourion, Cyprus; Tel Burna, Tell es-Safi/Gath, and Tel Gezer, Israel; and an epigraphic survey at the Karnak Temple in Luxor, Egypt. His research interests include daily life and household archaeology of ancient Israel. This is largely influenced by his MA thesis dealing with an elite four-room house at Gezer. Charles looks forward to working at Tel Keisan and learning about/researching the Phoenicians.
